Motorola Moto 360 Smartwatch Release Date 2014, Price, Specs & More
The Motorola Moto 360 is the next highly anticipated smartwatch coming and Android fans are hoping it is not a let down. Best Buy offered up what many believe are the details about the new Moto 360 smart watch, here is the scoop.
The Best Buy leak gives the Motorola Moto 360 a price of $250, which means the Moto watch will be more expensive than the Android Samsung Gear Live, that's selling around $200; and LG G Watch, selling for $229.
There is a press event on September 4 in Chicago which should unveil the official release date.
The design of the Motorola Moto 360 has a circular display instead of the normal square display on a typical watch. It has a mixture of stainless steel and plastic (steel for the case, plastic for the back) so it should be nice and durable.
The watch should be able survive in water up to 3.3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes, so you could wear it in the shower. The rumored device dimensions are: 1.8 x 1.8 x 0.4 inches (45mm x 45mm x 10.1mm). Weight is 2.1 ounces or 59.5g.
Android Wear is Google's wearable tech-specific operating system. The Moto 360 will be Android 4.3 or above compatible. WearBuck lets you pay for a Starbucks using your wrist, while Wear Internet Browser gives your basic functions you would expect. It's may also be customizable on the watch face so you change the style.
The specs for the Moto 360 will be a 1.5-inch LCD backlit touchscreen with a 320x290-pixel resolution (205 pixels per inch, folks). This is smaller than the LG G Watch's 1.66-inch IPS LCD display, but that device is square so hard to compare. It will also be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Processing will be by a Texas Instruments processor and 512MB of RAM. Bluetooth 4.0 lets you connect the Moto 360 to your smartphone. The smart watch is so to have no internal GPS support of its own. It does, however, reportedly come with a built-in pedometer and optical heart-rate monitor.
Vibration alerts will alert the user of any new notifications and voice activation will let you use your voice to operate it. An ambient light sensor is designed to keep the display bright in sunlight and darker at night. The battery size is not currently known. There is a 400mAh in the LG G Watch and it needs a nightly charge which was a turn off to many.
Smartwatches are becoming more common and everyone is waiting for Apple to join the market with the release of it's highly discussed iWatch. Until then, there are the Sony SmartWatch 2 (the SmartWatch 3 is rumored to arrive at IFA 2014), Samsung Gear Live, Pebble and newer Pebble Steel, Samsung Gear, Samsung Gear 2 and LG G Watch.
