In an interview with Moviehole, John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman mentioned about the sequel saying that Disney would not be making all that merchandise if they were not planning to make another movie. At the same time, the fans are lobbying for their favorite Mario to be included in the next installment of the film. I mean if Sonic the hedgehog, Zangief and Bowser made it to the first installment, then Mario in the second installment should not be such a big thing after all. As such, director Richard Moore stated in an interview that they did not introduce Mario in the first installment of the franchise simply because they were not able to find any place for him in the movie at the time, but perhaps the second movie is going to see him in action.

The plot suggestions at the time would see Ralph to meet different versions of himself. This idea was born out of Mario's multiple video game versions. According to Moore, "I know everyone here had a good time making the film. I've talked with John and Sarah and we would all love to visit that world again and work with those characters again. We would jump at the opportunity. We're all crossing our fingers about as far as you can cross them that we get a chance to do that."
