Lena Dunham's Memoir ‘Not That Kind of Girl' Discusses Her Struggles with OCD
Creator, writer and star of HBO's "Girls" recently announced via Twitter about her upcoming book tour to promote her forthcoming memoir called "Not That Kind of Girl."
In an excerpt that is published in The New Yorker, Dunham discusses in her memoir about her struggles and experiences dealing with the many facets of obsessive-compulsive disorder; which strikes a very strong similarity to her "Girls" character Hannah Horvath. It further stresses that Dunham as an 8-year-old, she remembers being afraid of everything. The excerpt is titled "Difficult Girl - Growing up, with help."
"Sitting with my mother in the beauty salon one afternoon, I come across an article about obsessive-compulsive disorder. A woman describes her life, so burdened with obsessions that she has to lick art in museums and crawl on the sidewalk. Her symptoms aren't much worse than mine: the magazine's description of her most horrible day parallels my average one. I tear the article out and bring it to my therapist, whose face crumples sympathetically, as though the moment she'd been dreading had finally arrived. It makes me want to throw my needlepoint supplies in her face. Do I have to do everything myself?"
Dunham's book tour will have 11 stops; including a kick-off in New York, Portland and Austin. She will be reading excerpts from the book, signing autographs and answering questions, as well as some special guests and knowing more about some important organizations that Dunham is involved with.
"Not That Kind of Girl" is out on bookstores starting Sept. 30 from Random House.
