True Detective Season 2 news: HBO programming head Mike Lombardo revealed that production for True Detective Season 2 kicks off this September, in time for a summer 2015 release date.

"True Detective" has been well received by fans and critics, earning Emmy nominations for Woody Harrelson, who plays Detective Martin Eric "Marty" Hart; and Matthew McConaughey, who plays Detective Rustin Spencer "Rust" Cohle.

Lombardo is all praises for the story lines written by Nic Pizzolatto for True Detective Season 2. "The writing is better than last season. It's exceptional," Lombardo said in an interview.

It is still unclear if the A-list actors will reprise their roles as the show's lead detectives. Casting issues have reportedly delayed the second season's development.

But there's still interesting True Detective Season 2 casting news to look forward to. "True Detective" Season 2 will reportedly include a female lead: Elisabeth Moss, best known for her role in the advertising industry -inspired series, "Mad Men". Taylor Kitsch of "Friday Night Lights" fame may possibly join the show as the third detective.

True Detective Season 2 rumors point to Vince Vaughn as the show's new villain. He will play the role of Frank Semyon, a shady and vicious businessman involved in a high stakes railroad scheme.
