The Winds of Winter: Delayed Release Hurting Games of Thrones. Expected Release: Uncertain.
The producers of the popular fantasy drama on HBO may run out of material to go on with the adventures of Bran and Hodor, as the release of the book on which it is based on keeps getting postponed. The TV channel claims the delay could hurt the show.
The Winds of Winter is the much awaited sequel in G.R.R. Martin's epic fantasy novel series 'A song of Ice and Fire.' It was to be the final installment of the series but following the success of the previous sequels, the 65-yeard old author announced that The Winds of Winter will be followed by one final book, 'A Dream of Spring.' The last two volumes will take the protagonists farther north and the white walkers will also have their place.
Any hopes of an early release were quashed by UK-based publisher Jane Johnson, who announced on social media that the book will "certainly not" be published before next year. Other indications for the delay came when novel's editor, Anne Groell said in an online panel discussion that the author was hard at work, and they all hoped to release it reasonably soon."
Also when Digital Spy asked Martin in an interview how the writing of The Winds if Winter was coming along, the author replied candidly:
"I don't know, I have days where I make lots of progress, I have days where I make next to no progress, I have days where I think I'm going backwards because I don't like what I wrote yesterday. I'm just writing it and when it's done, it'll be done."
But word is going round in certain quarters that the forthcoming book could take anywhere between 2015 and 2017 to be finished and published. In the meantime, the fate of the hit HBO series remains critical.
