Season 1 ends with Clarke waking up in a secured facility, and Monty locked up in a room. Later it's revealed that they're in a placed called "Mount Weather Quarantine Ward". The season 2 will start in the said ward.

In the second season, the scene starts with Clarke, incarcerated, drastically and violently. Later, Clarke is seen viewing what is outside of the facility. The producer assures that The 100 fans will be able to grasp the new setting right away.

As the characters were separated at the end of season 1, one of the focal points in the second season is the reunion of these characters.

Executive producer of The 100, Jason Rothenberg, said that the new season will be "really different, because there's no Ark, there's no space element, so it's a really different feeling for the show". Regarding Mount Weather, "It's a unique environment...we spent a lot of money building it and we're going to tell a lot of story there". He says Mount Weather is like "an underground version of the Ark, although it's a mirror image". He says he is mostly excited about the story of Abby and Clarke in the new season "since they haven't been together since the pilot".
