NBA Retiree Tracy McGrady Not Likely To Un-Retire Anytime Soon?
Retired seven-time All-Star in the NBA, Tracy McGrady, was seen late this summer working out in a Southern California gymnasium with Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant inviting speculation that he is "plotting" an NBA comeback according to SB Nation. However, that's not likely to happen anytime soon. Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report tweeted, "Would've been fun to see a TMac comeback w/Kobe. Not going to happen. Has China tour in Oct that interferes w/ training camp." Marcus Bass of Hoops Habit Fansided NBA Rumors added, "Even if McGrady feels up to the task of returning to the league, he's contractually obligated to a basketball tour of China in October."
Regarding speculations about a possible 'NBA Tracy McGrady comeback,' the ex-NBA star player himself told Yahoo! Sports in an email that "The comeback will not happen, unless I have the drive whenever I get back." However, he also confirmed that he was working out with Kobe Bryant. In his email he said, "Yes, I was working out with K.B. to get in shape and see how my body feels."
In an interview just last month with Basketball Insiders, McGrady maintained that he is fine with his retirement. He said: "I am [at peace with my decision to retire]. At times I get that itch, the urge to go back and play. I still can, I'm young enough to still play. My body feels good; I haven't played in a couple of years so my body feels great. It's just the mental part of [not] having that drive to get back in that type of shape and to put that type of time and focus into it." For now, he said he just wants to "Relax...that's it. Just enjoy life."
Also, in an interview back in January 2012, McGrady told Hoops Hype that after basketball he has other things he can look forward to. He said: "I have a few companies that I run. I have my own technology company. I have kids. My (bottled) water company(in Florida) is BLUE04. My technology company is based out of Washington D.C. It's called Dasdak."
McGrady, when he announced his retirement from the NBA on ESPN's First Take on August 26, 2013 said: "It's been 16 years playing the game I love. I've had a great run but it's time for it to come to an end."
