Lady Gaga's new album will be out by September 23 on Streamline, Columbia and Interscope, seen as an unlikely pairing with Jazz Icon Tony Bennett

Dance pop icon Lady Gaga, 28, and jazz superstar Tony Bennett, 88, have teamed up to create Cheek to Cheek, an album scheduled to come out on September 23.

Lady Gaga's new album may be an odd collaboration, but the two have a lot in common. They're both proud Italian-Americans - in real life, she is Stefani Germanotta while he is Anthony Dominick "Tony" Benedetto off stage. Gaga and Bennett are both Grammy winners, have sold millions of records, and have a shared passion for the music of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin.

Indeed, Lady Gaga's new album song list includes standards such as Anything Goes, Cheek to Cheek, Nature Boy, I Can't Give You Anything But Love, I Won't Dance, Firefly, Lush Life, Sophisticated Lady, Let's Face the Music and Dance, But Beautiful, and It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing).

It is a mutually beneficial union, it seems; Gaga wants to go beyond her usual pop hits such as Bad Romance and Applause while Bennett wants to introduce his music to a younger generation.

"These songs never go out of style," Bennett says in an interview.

"Like a good black dress!" adds Gaga.
