'Law and Order Special Victims Unit' Season 16: Detective Olivia Benson in a New Light and Why Actress Mariska Hargitay is 'In-Love' With Her Even More
Law & Order: SVU is one of the longest running series in the history of television. You name it, this show has done it. The cast and crew always manage to offer something new and fresh each season. Now on its 16th season, Law & Order: SVU is still going to keep viewers guessing.
Marisa Hargitay said she did not expect that after 16 years of playing the role of Detective Olivia Benson, she'd still be excited and "on the beat" in playing the role. Hargitay said, "I love her more now than ever...I love her because I am challenged by her. I never know what's going to happen."
Law & Order: SVU Season 16 will show Benson in a different light. In the previous season, she has been through hell. She was kidnapped, tortured, almost got raped - all in the name of her quest for justice. This season will show Benson struggling to become a foster mother while being a detective. Things even got more complicated when criminals are using her foster child to get to her. She now needs to protect the baby from all the complications and dangers that stem from her past.
Hargitay said her character experienced very dark things in the past. This season, Benson will finally experience the light through her foster child, Noah. Law & Order: SVU Season 16 will allow Benson's character to evolve. It will let viewers see Benson in a more interesting way rather than seeing her being the same person every week.
A new character is going to be introduced in Law & Order: SVU Season 16. Peter Gallagher will play the role of Deputy Chief William Dodds who is a charismatic but tough-as-nails boss of the special victims unit in New York City.
Law & Order: SVU Season 16 will premiere on September 24.
