The James bond character was created by Ian Fleming in 1953. He his featured his character 007 in twelve novels and two short stories collections. Since Fleming's death in 1964, seven other authors have written authorised Bond novels: Kingsley Amis; Christopher Wood; John Gardner; Rymond Benson; Sebastian Faulks; Jeffery Deaver and William Boyd. The fictional British Secret Service agent has also been adapted for television, radio, video games, comic strip and film. The films instalments have been the longest continuous running and second highest grossing film series to date. The films started in 1992 with Dr. No, starring Sean Connery s Bond. As of 2014, there have been twenty three instalments of the film with the latest being Skyfall (2012) starring Daniel Craig.

In an interview with at the Charlie Rose Show which aired on Hulu TV, Sam Mendez says, "what we are trying to do , and audiences seemed to embrace it in Skyfall, is that the characters were allowed to age for the first time and were allowed to acknowledge the history of the franchise that they had for years been part." In Bond 24, we can expect the characters to age even more thus we might not be picking up the film from the last point we left off in Skyfall but a few years after. However, the storylines will be connected in one way or the other.
