Downton Abbey Season 5 updates: Following the deaths of two major characters, Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) and Lady Sybil (Jessica Brown Findlay) in Downton Abbey Season 3, the series has never been the same again, losing its steam in Season 4.

So, what to expect from Downton Abbey Season 5? Can it rise back to its former glory?

Downton Abbey Season 5 release date has been set for September 21, 2014 in the UK and January 4, 2015 in the US, according to series network PBS.

Fans will be seeing more of the Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen), and Charles Blake (Julian Ovenden) love triangle, which will take an unexpected twist. James (Ed Speleers) and Lady Anstruther's (Anna Chancellor) relationship will also be on the spotlight in Downton Abbey Season 5. Isobel (Penelope Wilton) and Violet (Maggie Smith) are on battle mode, over Isobel's love life.

Mr. Green's (Nigel Harman) death continues to disturb Anna (Joanne Froggatt) and Mr. Bates's (Brendan Coyle), fragile friendship, whose loyalty to each other remained solid despite the intrigues. And finally Miss Baxter's (Raquel Cassidy) secret is about to be revealed.

The Downton Abbey season 5 trailer shows head of staff Mr. Carson discussing the changes afoot.

"I feel a shaking of the ground I stand on. The nature of life is not permanence but flux. Things are changing," he said.
