A Walk Among the Tombstones 2014: Another Liam Neeson Movie, Seemingly Predictable, Grim and Nasty
Liam Neeson is up for another movie in A Walk Among the Tombstones, which premiered just recently on September 19. The new film is a crime mystery drama directed by Scott Frank, and based on Lawrence Block's novel in 1992.
The story revolves around Matthew Scudder, a former NYPD cop, who is hired by a drug dealer, Kenny Kristo, for a job. Kenny's wife was recently killed, and he wants to find the killers responsible. Now, Matthew is out to hunt down the killers.
Director Scott Frank shares his insights on the new novel-to-film movie, "The challenge is to translate the feel of those novels into something visual, and then from a story standpoint, the moves in these stories are very small...And the challenge is to make those little moves feel big enough that they warrant a movie", and based on the movie reviews, it appears that it was indeed challenging to make "those little moves feel big enough", as other reviews point out that the movie was grim and dull.
As one review points out, the movie "feels too much like a week spent watching CBS crime procedurals that take themselves way too seriously", but it is said that one can definitely expect a "Liam Neeson movie" in A Walk Among the Tombstones; it is a man's world; violent, brutal, and nasty.
The movie cast includes Liam Neeson as the NYPD cop Matthew Scudder, Dan Stevens as Kenny Kristo, and Sebastian Roche as Yuri Landau.
Rated R, A Walk Among the Tombstones premiered September 19, 2014.
