NBA Trade Rumors, Updates and Reveals: the Cleveland Cavaliers to Trade Verajo and Waiters for Hibberts
The Cleveland Cavaliers have become quite the contenders almost overnight it seems and they are making every attempt to upgrade the roster of their players by any means necessary. As such, one of the main targets for the club is Roy Hibberts and according to the latest rumors he could make around $14,898,938. Similarly, the Indiana Pacers are going to want someone worth it in return. They might try to acquire Tristan Thompson but the salary package that comes with the player for $5,138,430 does not make a good match because of the CBA matching rules which would need the figure to correspond that of Hibberts for 14 million.
The most likely scenario is that the Cavaliers provide a deal entailing Anderson Verajo for 9.7 million and Don Waiters for 4 million which balances out the deal. Apparently, the beef between Kyrie Irving and Don Waiters was not just a rumor, and so the moving parts shuffle that sees Don go to the Pacers might just kill two birds with one stone for the Cavaliers. The deal makes sense for the Cavaliers at this time because they only need their center to rebound and defend the rim, which is right up the alley for Hibberts. His career averages of 11.2 points, 1.9 blocks and 6.7 rebounds seems to be uneven when we consider the fact that the Cavaliers will be giving up Waiters and Verajo in return.
On the other hand, any losses in overall production will be compensated quite a bit by LeBron and Love so it is not as bad as it seems. If Hibberts can have a really good rebounding year on both ends, then it is going to boost Cleveland's odds of being in a transition year and increases second chance points probability. However, if adding Hibberts to the middle only crowds court for the Cavaliers, then the fans are going to get tired with slick passes and fumbles in a hurry.
