Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Sequel Release Date, Reveals, Rumors and Updates: Netflix and Weinstein to Release Movie on August 28th 2015
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon remains one of the highest grossing foreign language films in America for a reason. The movie remains one of the best shot and scripted movies of all time grossing 213 million dollars. That was no small coin in the year 2000 and considering they used just 17 million dollars to make it, these people made a pretty coin. Just when we had all but forgotten it along come Netflix and Weinstein to tell us that we should expect a sequel on August 28th 2015. The franchise that has spawned video games and comics is based on the fourth book of a five part series by Wang Dulu. The sequel is based on the fifth book Iron Knight, Silver Vase and is set to be titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny.
According to the book Jen and Lo are blessed with a baby boy. Fang comes along and replaces their baby boy with a baby girl whom they name Silver Vase. There is one fundamental problem here; in the movie Jen jumps off a cliff at the end and we assume she is dead. However in the book she just runs away after a night with Lo who retreats into the desert with the sword. Anyway, the stolen child is somehow rescued but seeing as his parents are unknown he is sent to live in Han Wen Pei's home and is brought up with the name Iron Knight. Iron Knight sets out to seek his parents when he grows up only to witness their brutal murder in the desert. He is however joined with Silver Vase.
Shooting for the movie began in August of 2014 with scenes being shot in both China and New Zealand. Some of the cast and crew are returning to the sequel with the most notable return being of Michelle Yeoh who plays Yu Shu Lien. Netflix and Weinstein have decided to release the movie online and at IMAX simultaneously much to the chagrin of Big Movie. Companies like Regal Entertainment Group, AMC, Carmike Cinemas Theatres and Cineworld refusing to show the movie in their theatres accusing Netflix of corrupting the movie going experience. With or without them IMAX, Weinstein and Netflix are going ahead with their plans, this may be the beginning of a beautiful new viewing option or an epic fail. We just have to wait till 2015 to find out.
