DayZ news, updates: DayZ becomes multiplatform, release date for Xbox One set for 2015
DayZ news: The popular zombie survival game DayZ is coming soon to Xbox One, making it accessible to more gaming platforms.
"DayZ is definitely going to be a multiplatform title. That's the firm vision from Bohemia's standpoint. But we'll announce what all the other platforms are as we get to that point," reveals DayZ creator Dean Hall.
Industry experts believe multiplatform development is a good move as the widened scope allows developers to add more gaming features which would benefit PC gamers as well.
Hall hints of 2015 release date for DayZ for Xbox One. He adds that the schedule would really depend on whether the game would be an Early Access-type release or not.
DayZ was originally developed for Microsoft Windows by Bohemian Interactive in December 2013. DayZ has been made available only in PS4 since its console version was released in August 2014. Gaming website Gamespot reported that the idea of making DayZ available in other platforms had already been in place months ago.
A multiplayer open world game, DayZ takes place in the fictional post-Soviet state of Chernarus, where an unknown virus has infected the population and has converted them into zombies. As survivors, players must scavenge for supplies and stay alive and well before zombies - or other players - can get to them.
Players are initially equipped with just clothes and a flashlight, and must begin searching houses, barns, and apartments to look for food, water, medicine and weapons.
As of May 2014, DayZ has sold close to 2 million copies.
