'The Voice Season 8': Goodbye, Gwen Stefani; Will Taylor Swift and Pharrell Join Bromance Tandem Blake Shelton and Adam Levine as Coaches?
NBC has confirmed the line-up of coaches for its top-rating reality series "The Voice" for its eighth season in 2015, and it was confirmed Gwen Stefani is not coming back, Deadline has learned.
The announcement was made by host Carson Daly on the "Today" show on Oct. 14, Tuesday morning that the No Doubt singer will not fill in for Christina Aguilera again for the next season.
In August, the "Beautiful" singer gave birth to her first daughter with fiancé Matt Rutler who they named Summer Rain.
On the other hand, filling in the vacant seat left by original coach CeeLo Green, "Happy" hit maker Pharrell Williams will extend for one more season in the Emmy-winning singing contest joining the bromance tandem of Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
Airing in early 2015, "The Voice Season 8" will also welcome back coach Aguilera, who went on a maternity leave for the past three seasons, which means current season's guest coach Taylor Swift will not replace Stefani.
"We are excited to welcome Christina back to her red chair and can't wait to see how she mixes things up among Adam, Blake and Pharrell, in what will be an incredibly competitive competition," NBC Entertainment Alternative and Late Night Programming president Paul Telegdy said.
Before Stefani, Shakira filled in for Aguillera's seat for two seasons.
Recently, Stefani made a surprise move to steal country music contestant Craig Wayne Boyd during the first night of the battle rounds of "The Voice Season 7." Her husband Gavin Rossdale also appeared on the show serving as her adviser.
With Pharrell's return, the rotation of coaches every other season was broken, according to New York Daily News.
Produced by Warner Horizon Television and Talpa Media USA Inc., "The Voice" is currently the number one primetime reality show and the second highest rated entertainment program next to comedy series "The Big Bang Theory" starring Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, Melissa Rauch and Sara Gilbert.
"The Voice" creator John de Mol also executive produces the show with Audrey Morrissey, Lee Metzger, Marc Jansen and Mark Burnett.
