Maleficent Movie DVD release date, Reveals, News and Updates: Movie Rakes in 172 Million Dollars to the Box Office while DVD Release to be on November 4th 2014
2014 has been an exceptional year for Disney with Captain America amassing a whopping 714 million dollars at the box office. The movie giant has been doing a whole lot of reboots in the recent years with movies like Tangled and Frozen. With Maleficent they retold the Sleeping Beauty story from the villain's point of view. Disney pumped 180 million dollars into the project with a large chunk of that no doubt going to the CGI department. However, the movie was only able to bring in 172 million dollars to the box office. This is no doubt why it is getting a DVD release the very same year of its release.
The movie tells of two kingdoms; the human and the magic one. Maleficent watches over the magic kingdom but falls in love with a human boy. Driven by greed later on the boy, now a man, cuts off Maleficent's wings and presents them to the king who gives him his daughter's hand in marriage. The pain from losing the man she loved and her wings to boot and the intense betrayal she feels pushes Maleficent to become quite evil. The king has a daughter and this is where the story becomes familiar, Maleficent curses the girl. The king sends her away to live with three rather confused but good witches but Maleficent has access to the child and the two develop a deep and true relationship. Of course at this time Maleficent regrets this choice and tries to withdraw the curse but she cannot. Things happen and she falls asleep but is not awakened by Prince Charming's kiss but Maleficient's . The story is well told and Disney spared no expense when it came to special effects.
The movie saw the much awaited return of Angelina Jolie the screen. As usual Jolie did not disappoint and delivered a convincing performance. The movie was released in North America on April 4th 2014 and shall be released on DVD on November 4th 2014.
