Celine Dion & Family Thank Fans for Their Prayers After Rene's Death

Céline Dion's husband, René Angélil, died in the suburban Las Vegas home in Henderson, Nevada after a long bout with cancer. He was 73. Rene and Celine both had three children together. The funeral, which was on January 22, took place at St-Simon-et-Jude de Charlemagne church in Repentigny, Que..
"It is with deep sadness that we announce that Rene Angelil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer," said Team Celine."The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy. Other information you will be provided in the next few days."
Anglil was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998. At that time he had the tumour removed from his neck and after treatment he recovered. The couple reportedly first met in 1980 when she was only 12. She and her mother sent Angelil a demo tape and he was said to be moved to tears by Dion's voice.
Now, Celine and her family send their thank you to fans for their encouragements, well wishes and prayers. "My family and I are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people who have touched our lives during these past few days," read a letter posted on Celine's website Friday (Jan. 29). "We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most difficult time... more than you'll ever know. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
"I would also like to sincerely thank the Quebec Government for honoring René with National Funerals as well as the many individuals and organizations who came together to hold such a beautiful tribute in his name. We will never forget all of the kindness that you have bestowed upon us. On behalf of our family, with all of our love, Céline, René-Charles, Nelson & Eddy...Patrick, Jean-Pierre & Anne-Marie."
