New Film "Sarah’s Oil" Brings to Life the True Story of a 11-Year-Old Whose Faith Led to Millions in Oil

Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the official trailer for Sarah's Oil, an inspiring new drama based on the extraordinary true story of Sarah Rector, an 11-year-old African American girl in 1914 Oklahoma whose unwavering belief and resilience led her to become one of the youngest female millionaires in American history.
Directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and co-written with Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh, Sarah's Oil is inspired by Tonya Bolden's acclaimed book Searching for Sarah Rector: The Richest Black Girl in America. The film stars newcomer Naya Desir-Johnson as Sarah Rector, alongside Zachary Levi, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Garret Dillahunt.
The story follows young Sarah, whose seemingly barren land allotment hides a rich secret beneath its soil. Despite facing predatory speculators, legal guardianship disputes, and racial prejudice, Sarah's courage-and her conviction in the face of immense societal pressure-help her maintain control of her land and destiny.
"Sarah's story is one of resilience, hope, and faith against all odds," says director Cyrus Nowrasteh. "It's about a young girl who refused to be defined or defeated by the limitations others tried to place on her."
Release Date: Sarah's Oil will premiere in theaters nationwide on November 7, 2025.
