Bishop Marvin Winans Addresses Viral Offering Video and Reaffirms Commitment to Integrity and Love in Ministry

Bishop Marvin Winans, Senior Pastor of Perfecting Church, has spoken out following recent online discussion surrounding a viral video from the church's "Giving Day" service. The clip, which showed Bishop Winans addressing a congregant during the offering, has sparked public commentary and debate across social media platforms.
In the video, Bishop Winans is seen momentarily correcting a member who had approached the altar to give her donation. The congregant, identified as longtime Perfecting Church member Roberta McCoy, has since publicly clarified that the interaction was not a rebuke but a matter of order within the service.
"He absolutely did not rebuke me," McCoy shared in an interview with ABC 7 Detroit. "There was a correction because pastor had given instruction about which lines to stand in. I understood the situation and Bishop Winans' heart. There are no hard feelings at all."
Bishop Winans has also personally apologized to McCoy, emphasizing that the moment was never about the amount given but about maintaining order in a highly attended service.
"It grieves me that something done in love and order has been misunderstood," said Bishop Winans. "Roberta is a cherished member of this ministry, and I am deeply sorry for how that moment appeared. Our focus remains on worship, unity, and generosity-not embarrassment or division."
Perfecting Church's annual Giving Day is a time when members voluntarily pledge gifts toward ongoing outreach, ministry, and community development initiatives. This year's call for a "$1,000 plus one" offering was designed to symbolize both generosity and faith in God's provision.
Despite the viral speculation, both Bishop Winans and McCoy have reaffirmed their mutual respect and commitment to the work of the ministry. McCoy stated that she plans to remain an active member of Perfecting Church and continue supporting its mission.
"I love my church, and I love my pastor," McCoy said. "We've talked privately, and everything is at peace. I'm moving forward in faith."
Perfecting Church expresses gratitude to its members and supporters for their continued prayers and understanding. The ministry remains steadfast in its mission to serve the Detroit community and spread the message of hope and love through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
