Maverick City's Chandler Moore Responds to the Verdict of the Derek Chauvin Trial with "Breathe"

Maverick City's Chandler Moore responds to the long-awaited a verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin with the release of the new worship song "Breathe." Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter by a jury for his role in the murder of George Floyd last May outside of a local convenience store.
Floyd's death, and the video which showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes, showed some of the ugly colors of the fabric of America and policing in America.
"Breathe," inspired by Floyd's final words, speaks of the urgent call to use the breathe God has given us to worship. Listen to "Breathe" here.
Moore writes, "I know this season has had many of us just holding our breath in attempt to brace ourselves for repeat disappointment. Most of us can't remember the last time we were able to just relax & exhale. After writing this song w/ my friends, in the middle of the trial that just ended, I realized much deeper than ever what was taken away from George Floyd.
It's our very breath that gives God praise... don't let anyone take that away from you. Praying for the heart of Derek Chauvin. Grateful for this step towards real change in our country. "
Maverick City is a collective of worshipers committed to deconstructing unspoken rules that exist in the CCM and Gospel world. Through this partnership, Chandler has penned and featured on songs like "Most Beautiful" and "Refiner (featuring Steffany Gretzinger)." To date, both songs have garnered over 2 million streams a piece.
