Melanie Penn Releases "The Rising: A Resurrection Album" Exploring the Easter Story Through Music

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Melanie Penn has released her highly anticipated album, The Rising: A Resurrection Album, now available as of September 19, 2025. This project offers a unique musical perspective on the period between Christ's resurrection and ascension, with each song written from the first-person viewpoint of individuals who were present during those events, such as Peter, Thomas, and Mary Magdalene.
Penn, a classically trained vocalist and songwriter, has a rich background in both theater and worship music. She portrayed Sandy in the Broadway national tour of Grease! and served as a worship leader at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City under the leadership of the late theologian Tim Keller. Her previous works include Wake Up Love (2010), Hope Tonight (2015), and the critically acclaimed Immanuel (2017), which reached #1 on Amazon's Christian, Worship, and Holiday Download charts.
The Rising features original songs depicting the time between Christ's burial and His ascension, all based on the Gospel accounts. Each track presents the story through the eyes of someone who experienced these events firsthand.
The album's lead single, "Roll That Stone Away," captures the moment of Jesus' resurrection and the command to unseal the tomb, written from God's perspective. Another single, "Let There Be Light," imagines what creation might sing on Resurrection Day, offering a unique first-person view from "The Morning."
Fans can explore the singles and stay updated on the album's remaining songs via Melanie Penn's official website and her Apple Music page.
